New antidumping investigation  (27 September, 2009)

The European Commission has announced both anti dumping and anti subsidy investigations on stainless steel fasteners imported from India and Malaysia. The investigations commenced on 13 August and will consider a wide range of stainless steel fasteners, including woodscrews, self tapping screws, hexagon bolts and socket screws. The investigation is in response to a complaint lodged by the EIFI on behalf of four Italian manufacturers of these products, which alleges a dumping margin of over 25% in relation to imports from India, and around 10% for Malaysia. Antidumping tariffs already apply to stainless steel fasteners from China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines coming into force in 2005.
The BAFD continues its objection to the imposition of protectionist measures of this type on the grounds that they distort the international market - demonstrated by the migration of production to India and Malaysia following the imposition of the 2005 anti dumping regulation.  The extension of tariffs on stainless steel fasteners will unquestionably result in higher costs for these products to the user market.
